Georgia Juvenile Services Association (GJSA) had an exciting conference which included a variety
of new training topics.  The conference was held April 12-14, 2006  at the Classic Center, 300 North
Thomas Street,
Athens, Georgia.  Participants stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, 390 East Washington
Street, Athens, Georgia.  Hotel accommodations for the conference attendees were arranged with
the newly constructed Hilton Garden Inn.  It is located across the street from the Classic Center in
downtown Athens.

Sheriff Ira Edwards, Jr., Clarke County Sheriff's Office, Col Frank A.
Williams
, Youth Challenge, Albert Murray, Commissioner, Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ),
Jessie Hambrick, Narcotics Special Investigator, Douglas County Sheriff's Department, "Will You
Survive This Ice Age?“, and
Rob Rosenbloom, Deputy Commissioner, Dept. of  Juvenile Justice,  
Operations Division.  

This year’s conference featured a variety of workshops.  Some workshops offered this year for
members to attend were SIRS, Working with Female Juveniles, Making Leadership Happen, Sexual
Harassment, Due Process, Legal Updates, Stress Management, Organizing Me, Cultural Awareness,
Mental Health and School Based Probation.  Opening ceremony entertainment was provided by
Clarke Central High School Choir.  Every year GJSA presents
awards to deserving individuals.  

Some workshops this year included Self Defense, Cultural Diversity, Leadership, Working with
Female Offenders, and an update on Sexual Offender training to include CEU credits.  Dr. Earl Suttle
provided a motivational speech during the luncheon meeting.  The general session topics included
information on gang activities and the new trends on drug use by juveniles.
